I like to take 70-536 but I don't know if there is any pre-requisite. Does anyone knows ? I am new to .net, so any comments to help me out on what exam/course to take first is very much appreciated. So far I have taken intro C# and asp.net 2.0

Thanks. I wouldn't want to learn the material using this guide (no examples, and very terse explanations of why you would use the various .Net classes and interfaces), but it looks like it would be good for a final refresher before taking the exam. Does anyone know whether the cramsession.com guides are considered to be a good indicator of what the exams will cover? They've distilled the 1000-page Microsoft training kit for the 70-536 exam down to 49 pages -- it seems too good to be true.

For what it's worth, one possibly less expensive alternative to buying the Microsoft 70-536 study kit ($60 from Amazon.ca) is to sign up for O'Reilly's online library (safari.oreilly.com). They have all of the Microsoft Core Developer kits (70-536, 70-528, 70-547, 70-548 ) as well as many others kits. They have the full text of the books, but not the CDs that come with the books. One nice feature is that they allow copy and paste from the text. The subscription for Safari is $US20 per month, so whether you save money over just buying the books depends on how fast you read. I believe they still have a 14-day trial period.

I wrote (and passed  ) the exam shortly after the October meeting where Ed had some complimentary study material. (Thanks)

If you work with .net all day (or even part of the day) the exam is really the stuff you already know.  As always, there were a few parts of the framework I rarely use, so that required some study.

Mathew - have you taken the exam yet?

I should mention that MS has a free “Second Shot” program, but it is almost over (Jan 31).

If you sign up (for free) for a “Second-Shot” before you write your exam, and you don't pass, you can try again for free.  This program end Jan 31/08, but they keep adding of extending this thing, so check the MS website.

J.

PS: I passed the 70-536 but I did need the second shot for another exam and that saved a few dollars.

The Ottawa.NET usergroup also ran one of the 70-536 study group.  If you're interested, here is the material.

http://www.ottawacommunity.net/CommunityForum/tabid/53/forumid/11/scope/threads/Default.aspx

There is quite a bit of information on there from ppts to demos.  Hope this helps.

PS  They also ran the next WinApps study group (on the website too).
